POSITION OVERVIEW


We are looking for a senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Lean Project Management Office (PMO) in managing the planning, design, and construction of the Command-and-Control Facility for the United States Space Command. In this role, you will provide expert oversight and ensure full regulatory compliance for all mechanical systems. This position emphasizes strong collaboration with the owner's representative, design teams, and contractors to meet project performance metrics and proactively resolve critical issues for this mission-essential facility. The candidate must be interested in progress over the bureaucratic process.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Apply Lean principles to streamline oversight processes and enhance overall project value for the facility's mechanical systems.

  • Act as the subject matter expert, validating that all mechanical systems align with regulatory standards.

  • Monitor and analyze mechanical system performance metrics against project goals, reporting on progress and variances to project leadership and the owner's representative.

  • Perform on-site inspections to verify that the installation of mechanical systems aligns with approved plans, specifications, and all applicable codes.

  • Lead collaborative review meetings with project stakeholders to identify and resolve installation, commissioning, and compliance issues efficiently.

  • Witness, document, and approve the results of system testing, balancing, and commissioning activities to ensure all performance and code criteria are met or exceeded.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Required Qualifications:


  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience providing oversight on complex, commercial, or industrial-scale construction projects with a value of $100M or greater.

  • Comprehensive expertise not only in the technical aspects of mechanical systems but also in modern construction processes and construction management.

  • Deep understanding of complex mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection-and their integration within a mission-critical facility

  • A forward-thinking ability to predict system-level problems, identify constructability issues, and mitigate risks before they arise.

  • Expertise in constructability, sustainability, and ensuring systems are designed and installed to be easily and efficiently maintained throughout their lifecycle.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills focused on identifying the root cause of issues and developing practical, effective solutions.

  • Excellent ability to communicate complex mechanical concepts, risks, and solutions clearly and concisely to senior leadership.

  • A proven track record of effective collaboration with owner's representatives, design engineers, and construction contractors to drive successful project outcomes.

  • Top Secret/SCI clearance


Preferred Qualifications


  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) or similar certification.

  • Familiarity with Government and/or Department of Defense (DoD) organizations and project structures.

  • Experience with Lean construction methodologies and reporting through a PMO structure.
