Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to support a federal client within the transportation and safety industry. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will play a critical role in advancing and maintaining the security posture of a large-scale Operations & Maintenance (O&M) program. This position blends hands-on technical cybersecurity engineering with strong programmatic oversight, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous process improvement. This position will be Hybrid in Washington, DC 2 days per week!
Responsibilities of the Senior Cybersecurity Engineer:
• Monitor and analyze vulnerability reports from tools such as Invicti, Tenable, and Synack.
• Develop and maintain processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to cybersecurity initiatives, including code scanning and vulnerability management.
• Work closely with the O&M team to remediate vulnerabilities or gather/validate evidence for false-positive documentation.
• Plan, facilitate, and lead weekly vulnerability management meetings, including status tracking and follow-up coordination.
• Collaborate with the System Owner and ISSM to track and report on Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
• Stay current with federal cybersecurity frameworks and regulations, including NIST, FISMA, and other applicable standards.
• Participate in weekly Configuration Management Board and engineering meetings to support cross-team alignment.
• Translate stakeholder requirements into actionable functional specifications for engineers and developers.
• Track, analyze, and report on remediation progress, risks, and vulnerability trends.
• Ensure all cybersecurity deliverables meet federal compliance requirements and operational standards.
• Serve as a liaison to ensure clear communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications of the Senior Cybersecurity Engineer:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of specialized cybersecurity experience and 7+ years of overall relevant experience.
• CISSP or equivalent certification.
• Deep understanding of NIST, FISMA, and other federal cybersecurity frameworks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining SOPs and technical documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with federal stakeholders.
• Experience supporting federal IT projects within an Agile delivery environment.
• PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain or currently hold a Public Trust clearance.
Compensation for the Senior Cybersecurity Engineer includes:
• Salary range: $155,000 - $175,000
