Duties

  • Perform a range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control and community policing.
  • Conduct investigations of accidents, suspicious activities, security breaches, and crimes.
  • Respond to calls involving fire, robberies, automobile accidents, bomb threats, barricade situations, and other emergencies.
  • Control access to sensitive/restricted areas where there is potential for breach of security, public safety, or public health.
  • Apprehend people committing crimes.
Requirements

Conditions of employment

  • Incumbent will be required to successfully complete a Police Officer Field Training Program within 6 months upon initial assignment to law enforcement duties and maintain certification.
  • Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exception from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully gain and pass training certification related to police work functions.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • Must meet the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential, in the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid (Secret) security investigation.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • One year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
  • Must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Employee is expected to maintain a high standard of conduct and is assessed for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgement, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work under pressure , and a positive attitude.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Maintaining order and protecting life and property; 2) Responding to emergency calls, complaints, or other calls during shift; AND 3) Completing police reports and forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Investigation of Fitness: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidate's honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. Such investigations will be conducted under the security requirements of the hiring agency.
