What You Will Do:

At Independent Software, we build and support modern infrastructure that keeps critical business systems running securely and efficiently. As a Level 2 System Administrator, you will work hands-on with Linux-based environments across cloud, containerized, virtualized, and enterprise infrastructure platforms. You will help deploy new systems, improve automation, enhance security posture, and support applications running in complex environments.

This role offers the opportunity to work with modern DevOps and infrastructure technologies while strengthening your expertise in Linux administration, networking, security compliance, and infrastructure automation. You will collaborate with engineers, product teams, and system owners to solve real operational challenges, improve reliability, and implement solutions that scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux-based servers across containerized, cloud, and virtualized environments
  • Provide day-to-day system administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Support storage management, virtualization infrastructure, and network/firewall configurations
  • Apply SSP compliance requirements and STE/STN security standards to Linux systems and network devices
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues
  • Support system lifecycle management including patching, upgrades, and automation initiatives
  • Implement automation solutions using tools such as Ansible or similar platforms when applicable
  • Analyze recurring system issues and implement preventative solutions
  • Maintain system documentation and operational standards
  • Support application deployments and general infrastructure troubleshooting

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong Linux system administration experience in enterprise environments
  • Experience working in containerized or cloud-based infrastructure environments
  • Knowledge of storage management, virtualization platforms, and network/firewall configuration
  • Solid understanding of PKI, TLS, cryptography, and related security policies
  • Experience supporting SSP documentation and STE/STN compliance requirements on Linux systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across applications, infrastructure, and networking layers
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical teams and environments

Preferred but not required:
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or similar
  • Familiarity with FreeIPA, Red Hat KVM, NetApp, or similar enterprise platforms
  • Experience with XKS, Nifi, Raybird, JIRA, Confluence, or related tools
  • Scripting experience (Bash, Python, Perl, JSON, etc.)

Education and Experience:
  • Ten (10) years of experience as a System Administrator
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required
  • Five (5) additional years of System Administration experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Linux administration and automation platforms such as Ansible
  • Experience configuring network switches and applying STE/STN compliance requirements to servers

Certifications:
  • DoD IAT Level II certification required


Clearance Requirement:
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
