Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing, mentoring, evaluating, and training subordinate police officers in law enforcement practices and policies; reviewing preliminary investigations and police reports to ensure offenses and/or incidents are accurately documented; and conducting law enforcement duties in the protection of life, property and civil rights. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.

Additional information
- You will serve as desk officer with responsibility for all law enforcement patrol operations communicating with mobile patrol units to pass directions to subordinate law enforcement officers.
- You will coordinate emergency response between law enforcement, security, fire, and other emergency units, and receive and act on calls concerning reports of violations or complaints.
- You will assign work to be performed by employees in the unit and review work on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis.
- You will ensure all patrols are in compliance with organizational SOPs, policies, current law enforcement techniques and skills.
- You will coordinate desk operations with prior and succeeding shifts and ensure that incomplete actions are fully understood.

- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- You must graduate or have graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 25% of the time may be required.
- You must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment and comply with Army Civilian Police dress (uniform) and appearance requirements of AR 670-10.
- You must be qualified and maintain certification in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, radar guns, and breath alcohol analysis instruments and specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense.
- You may be required to be a Special Reaction Team (SRT) member required to participate in high-risk arrest, sniper, hostage, terrorist, and other comparable criminal and violent situations on an on-call basis.
- Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program" to include passing initial and periodic medical examinations.
- Work will require rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.

- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
- Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
- If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
- If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
- Medical and dental care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical and dental facilities will vary by location.
- Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
- Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
