Position Overview
Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled AFSIM / Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support a growing Department of Defense (DoD) program for one of our premier federal clients, Booz Allen Hamilton. This position is fully on-site and plays a critical role in developing, validating, and integrating high-fidelity modeling and simulation solutions that support real-world defense and intelligence missions.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience with DoD/IC simulation tools, a solid foundation in RF systems, and the ability to work directly with government stakeholders as a trusted technical partner.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the on-site technical liaison, coordinating modeling and simulation efforts across government customers and partner teams
Provide daily modeling, simulation, and RF engineering support to mission-focused teams
Design, develop, and implement asset/entity models using tools such as AFSIM, ODESSA, ITASE, NGTS, OneSAF, or other DoD/IC simulation platforms
Apply RF engineering expertise across areas including:
Digital signal processing, dynamic filtering, and cognitive spectral sensing
RF front-end analysis and internal receiver architecture development
Antenna modeling and simulation to optimize design and performance
Link budget analysis to evaluate and enhance RF system performance
RF circuit and component development and testing in compliance with design standards
Gain/loss analysis for RF systems and subsystems
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define simulation objectives and requirements
Perform verification and validation (V&V) to ensure model accuracy and reliability
Analyze simulation outputs and deliver clear, actionable technical reports to stakeholders
Support integration of simulation models into larger system architectures
Troubleshoot and resolve modeling, simulation, and software-related issues
Stay current with emerging modeling and simulation technologies and methodologies
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers
Required Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline
Hands-on experience with one or more DoD/IC modeling and simulation tools (AFSIM, ODESSA, ITASE, NGTS, OneSAF, or equivalent)
Strong understanding of AFSIM modeling principles and methodologies
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Ability and willingness to work fully on-site in Charlottesville, VA
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related technical field
Experience with additional modeling, simulation, or analysis tools
Programming experience in C++, Python, and/or MATLAB
Background in software development and system integration
Familiarity with DoD/IC operational concepts and mission requirements
Experience working in Agile development environments
Compensation
Contract: $50/hr – $80/hr
Conversion Salary Range: $90,000 – $160,000 annually
Compensation is determined based on multiple factors, including but not limited to years of relevant experience, level of education, technical expertise, certifications, and role alignment at time of conversion.
