The Mission Technologies Network Administrator 4 is a senior-level position responsible for leading network operations, architecture design, and strategic planning for Mission Technologies networking infrastructure. The candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in operating, maintaining, and optimizing complex network connectivity across multiple classification levels and distributed environments. This role requires advanced technical leadership in ensuring continuous network availability, implementing security best practices, and driving network modernization initiatives. As a senior network operations specialist, you will provide expert-level troubleshooting of sophisticated network issues including WAN optimization, advanced routing protocols, security architecture, and multi-vendor equipment integration. The candidate will mentor junior team members, coordinate with stakeholders across the organization, and serve as the primary technical escalation point for critical network incidents.

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that!

• Lead and optimize enterprise-wide local area networks, wide area networks, virtual private networks (VPN), and Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) solutions
• Design and architect complex network solutions including selection and integration of hardware and software packages across multi-vendor environments
• Serve as technical lead for planning, evaluation, and coordination of installation and reconfiguration of advanced data and voice communication network elements
• Maintain expert-level proficiency in all areas of network technologies including next-generation firewalls, advanced routing protocols, network automation, and cloud networking
• Provide strategic recommendations to management on network infrastructure investments, capacity planning, and technology roadmaps based on business requirements and industry trends
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation including architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, runbooks, and technical specifications
• Conduct advanced network analysis and performance tuning for short- and long-range planning, implementing proactive monitoring and optimization strategies
• Lead coordination efforts with third-party vendors, service providers, and internal stakeholders for complex implementations and escalated issues
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior network administrators and operations staff
• Drive network security initiatives including zero-trust architecture implementation, security hardening, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements
• Participate in or lead change management processes for critical network infrastructure modifications
• Serve as subject matter expert for network incident response and disaster recovery planning

Minimum Qualifications

• 9 years relevant experience with bachelor's degree in related field; 7 years relevant experience with master's degree in related field; 4 years' experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant experience
• 8+ years demonstrated experience in enterprise network operations, design, and support in complex environments
• Must currently hold a US Secret security clearance (minimum requirement)
• CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent advanced certification required
• Multi-cloud network configuration experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) required
• Proven experience leading network projects and serving as technical escalation point
• Strong background in DoD or federal government network environments preferred

Preferred Requirements

Technical Expertise
• Expert-level experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise WAN and LAN network equipment and circuits
• Advanced proficiency with Palo Alto Networks firewalls including Panorama management, Wildfire, Threat Prevention, and Global Protect VPN
• Deep expertise in network troubleshooting at the protocol/packet level using advanced tools (Wireshark, tcp dump, NetFlow analysis, SNMP, syslog aggregation)
• Exceptional technical troubleshooting skills with ability to analyze complex, multi-system network issues and provide rapid resolution
• Mastery of Cisco technologies including advanced routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, route redistribution), switching (VTP, STP, VSS/VPC, 802.1x), and Cisco IOS/IOS-XE
• Strong knowledge of Fortinet infrastructure including FortiGate firewalls, Forti Manager, and Forti Analyzer
• Expert understanding of IP networking fundamentals, OSI model, TCP/IP stack, QoS, and multicast technologies
• Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, or similar tools for configuration management and deployment
• Hands-on experience in 24/7 network operations centers including incident management, problem management, and service level agreement (SLA) compliance

Additional Skills
• Proficiency with network monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, or similar enterprise tools
• Advanced knowledge of network security technologies including micro segmentation, VRFs, NAC/802.1x,IDS/IPS, and secure access service edge (SASE)

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family.
