Job Summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an accomplished Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the development and execution of robust occupational safety, fire life safety, and emergency preparedness programs. In this strategic role, you will oversee a broad portfolio that includes fall protection, electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, contractor safety, injury investigations, emergency planning, fire protection, life safety systems, as well as fire system inspections and maintenance. Your responsibilities will span both regional and site levels, with a mandate to provide enterprise-wide support and ensure program consistency across locations. Reporting directly to the EHS Director and managing one direct report, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding our workforce and assets while driving compliance with industry standards and best practices.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in Chantilly, VA .

What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop, manage, and execute comprehensive Occupational Safety, Fire Life Safety, and Emergency Preparedness programs across our site, regional locations, and Enterprise-wide.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the development and implementation of strategic EHS initiatives and Aerospace Work Instructions (AWI's).
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and maintenance of EHS policies and programs to ensure regulatory compliance, injury prevention, and effective risk mitigation.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies, senior management, and Crisis Management teams to address EHS-related issues and maintain strong communication channels.
  • Conduct various evaluations such as indoor air quality, confined space assessments, hot-work, lasers, fire extinguishers, and chemical exposure
  • Provide effective training on environmental, health, and safety regulations, fostering EHS awareness and compliance among personnel.
  • Establish and maintain proactive and positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, functional partners and appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Respond promptly to emergencies such as evacuations, the activation of shelter-in-place orders, or the initiation of lockdown procedures.
  • May require entry into potentially hazardous environments for evaluation and/or monitoring


What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Environmental Health & Safety Manager include:
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required
  • A minimum of (8) years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is required
  • Demonstrated experience with key regulatory and industry standards, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
  • Proven familiarity with environmental, health, and safety best practices, standards, and methodologies
  • Strong technical background in managing safety programs and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Capable of performing field work that involves extended periods of walking, standing, climbing, and the safe lifting or moving of items weighing up to 25 lbs, among other physical demands
  • Ability and willingness to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during job-related activities
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a TS/ SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • An advanced degree in a related field is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated managerial experience in leading and developing teams is highly valued
  • Possession of industry-recognized certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is preferred
  • A current 40-hour HAZWOPER training certificate is required
  • Certifications in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are desired

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
