Basic Requirement for Social Science Series 0101:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as counseling, social work, psychology, criminal justice.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing comprehensive prevention plans for the prevention of harmful behaviors; advising and educating leaders on primary activities; and developing valid and reliable data collection methods to assess prevention efforts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- Serve as the Deputy to the Prevention Program Manager.
- Maintain day-to-day operations and oversight of integrated primary prevention efforts by ensuring technical competence of the integrated primary prevention workforce
- Advise and support ongoing prevention efforts while modernizing the content, delivery, and dosage of prevention education
- Educate leaders on integrated primary prevention and enhances overall leader knowledge of integrated primary prevention.
- Apply a working understanding of health equity, social justice, and social determinants of health, and translates science to practice.
- Assist the Integrated Prevention Program Manager in the development of primary prevention goals and objectives.
- Support ongoing prevention policy development and refinement at the local level that clearly defines the roles and responsibilities of the prevention workforce and leadership.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Within six months of employment, must complete DoD SPARX Knowledge training specific to prevention activities being delivered, and complete all requirements to obtain the OSD Credentialing Program for Prevention Personnel (D-CPPP) credential.
- Per DoDI 6400.11, this position must acquire and maintain a Level 5 of the DoD Credentialing Program for Prevention Personnel (D-CPPP) in compliance with OSD guidance.
