Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC INSPECTOR SUPERVISOR, WS-5801-12, you will participates with higher-level management officials in planning and establishing long-range work requirements and schedules. Responsible for supervising workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing work of the function. Plans work operations of great scope, complexity, and administrative authority. Determines the sequence, priority, and time for performance of operations within the limits of broad work schedules and time limits. This position involves a range of supervisory and operational duties, including the short-term planning of work, resources, and personnel, as well as coordinating with other teams and participating in long-term strategic planning. The role is responsible for directing and assigning tasks, resolving work-related issues, and managing administrative functions such as leave, training, performance appraisals, and promotions. Additionally, the individual in this position will perform non-supervisory tasks as needed, ensure compliance with safety and operational procedures, manage property and equipment, and participate in readiness exercises and inspections, potentially taking on additional duties during emergencies.

This position works on a 4/10's compressed work schedule with four 10-hour days, Tuesday-Friday each week of the pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.

  • KANSAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must have a valid Kansas state driver's license.
  • SUPERVISORY POSITIONS REQUIRE 1 YEAR SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD (CNGBI 213)
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

Military Grades: CW2 through CW4 or O1 through O4

Compatible Military Assignments: Immaterial

GENERAL EXPERIENCE :Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.

JOURNEYMAN EXPERIENCE : Experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
