JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Critical Environment Technician serves as a subject matter expert in a major area of Critical Environment (CE) operations—such as electrical, mechanical, controls, or generator systems—and performs advanced technical tasks with a high degree of independence. This role includes conducting regular inspections and oversight of critical facility infrastructure, including control systems, HVAC, mechanical equipment, and building and grounds conditions. Any unsafe, abnormal, or noncompliant findings are escalated promptly in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards.
Using the internal computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), the technician manages equipment assets, processes work orders, and supports ongoing maintenance activities. The role requires rapid and safe response to abnormal site conditions, often leading onsite incident response efforts and coordinating corrective actions with other critical facilities professionals without direct supervision.
The Critical Environment Technician contributes to the development, enhancement, and execution of emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to CE operations and incident response. Under minimal oversight, the technician performs planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities across a variety of equipment types, ensuring strict adherence to approved procedures.
Strong technical and hands on expertise is essential, including independently troubleshooting systems, subsystems, and components within the assigned discipline. The technician may also provide guidance and support to lower level colleagues.
A high degree of safety and compliance focus is required. The technician consistently follows and reinforces safety and security protocols, including job hazard assessments, EH&S policies, toolbox talks, and business procedures. Maintaining secure operations is critical to this position, requiring an active security clearance and adherence to strict site security protocols.
The work environment includes high security, high compliance spaces with no external connectivity and restrictions on personal electronic devices. This requires exceptional critical thinking, methodical execution, and strict adherence to security procedures when transitioning between secure and non-secure areas. Responsibilities also include rigorous data management and physical security compliance, including proper handling, storage, and removal of equipment in alignment with ongoing customer and physical security audits.
The Critical Environment Technician completes all required security training, escorts uncleared vendors or IT personnel as needed, and proactively identifies, escalates, and addresses any potential security issues or incidents.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND 1+ year(s) mission critical services work/applied learning experience (e.g., high availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields) OR equivalent experience.
- Candidates must be able to meet client, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph. Ability to meet client, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance (TS/SCI FSP) to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment. This position will be required to pass the client's BG check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. To meet this legal requirement, the hired employee will need a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance.
