Duties

  • Provides policy guidance and broadly defined program objectives.
  • Prepare correspondence regarding the Joint Strategic Capabilities Plan (JSCP), Global Employment of the Force (GEF), and Commander directed deliberate planning related support to the command and its components.
  • Coordinate management services, activities, policies, and programs in relation to SOUTHCOM's mission.
  • Monitor deliberate and crisis action planning.
  • Develop and review contingency plans, training exercises, and current and future operations.
  • Ensure thorough analysis is performed in preparation for In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) of required plans.
  • Evaluate performance of subordinate employees.
  • Determine personnel, travel, budget, and facility requirements to effectively develop and maintain directed Concept Plans (CONPLANS).
  • Maintain oversight of contracts and contracting issues that support the Division.
  • Develop position papers and decision tools for integration into strategic and operational planning.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires a Security Clearance at the Top Secret SCI level, as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use and safeguard classified National Defense information.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Monitor deliberate and crisis action planning to ensure organizational readiness; 2). Develop program goals to assess policy execution for future missions; and 3). Assign workload to personnel to ensure organizational deadlines are met.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13) or above.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
