Duties

  • Operates a multi-engine fixed wing airplane to assist in the evaluation of parachute equipment and techniques.
  • Performs preflight and post-flight maintenance and operational checks to determine aircraft safety is in accordance with current policies and procedures.
  • Verifies airplane complies with all Air Traffic Control (ATC) clearances and instructions.
  • Operates navigational and communication radios, auto-pilot, computerized flight management systems, pressurization, and other on-board aircraft systems to ensure proper aircraft operation.
  • Completes evaluation documents associated with student pilot training and performance activities.
  • Provides instruction to pilots by overseeing the aircraft standardization training program.

  • This position requires an annual physical examination or special flight physical examination.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • The incumbent must utilize and wear any personal protective equipment and/or clothing as provided by the employer.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain, maintain and keep in possession a valid state motor vehicle operator license.
  • This position may require temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 55% of the time.
  • Must possess a current first class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions.
  • Must Possess experience/ training in aviation maintenance verifiable with certification as a graduate from a course described as the Army Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course and the Army Aviation Maintenance Officer Course or its equivalent.
  • The applicant/incumbent of this position must be current and qualified IAW with applicable DA/OPM qualification requirements to fly DHC-8 300 / C-147A DASH 8 and De Havilland UV-18A Twin Otter airplanes.
  • Incumbent of the position may be required to to complete a 1 year probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the operation of a multi-engine fixed wing aircraft; preparing technical flight reports in accordance with established procedures; performing functional flight checks on assigned aircraft; providing instruction to current and/or future airplane pilots ; and piloting an aircraft during multiple flight conditions (i.e., limited visibility, increment weather conditions) . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Basic Requirement: Possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates, and/or military rating, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position. Flight hours MUST BE in the body of the resume. Your application packet MUST include a copy of certificates/military ratings

Flight hour requirements:

Total flight time - 1500 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to ¼ total flight time.)
Multi-engine Airplane - 500 hours
Pilot in Command - 250 hours
Night flying - 75 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to 25 night flying hours.)
Flying Time, Last 12 months - 100 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to ½ the flight hours required within the last 12 months.)
