Duties

As a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT(TITLE 32), GS-0603-12, you will adminsiter comprehensive medical assessments, physical assessments, and preventative medical service to Air National Guard ANG members at an ANG Wing. Performs comprehensive physical assessments of ANG members to include full physical assessments, significant past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, recording/reviewing current medications, and immunization history. Requests, orders, and interprets laboratory tests related to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR), mobility and retention standards, and flying standards. Requests, evaluates, and applies the findings of radiological studies. When needed, requests consultations to assist on interpretation of abnormal studies and discusses the interpretation of abnormal studies with the member's treating provider. Services involve direct management of occupational/preventive medicine practices including, but not limited to, fitness for duty (FFD) assessments, annual, and Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), annual Web Health Assessments (WEBHA), Line of Duty (LOD) determination, Medical Continuation (MEDCON), Incapacitation (INCAP) pay, Convalescent Leave (CONLV), Disability Evaluation System (DES) Wing fitness questionnaires. Management of fly and non-fly waivers and assignment disability codes (ALC). Conducts face to face meetings relating to the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Performs person to person provider contact in mental health assessments. Manages medical assessments addressed by the Deployment Availability Working Group (DAWG). Manages Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Program (maintains surveillance of Wing testing and results). Manages the Medical Review Officer (MRO) portion of the Drug Demand Reduction Program (DDRP). Evaluates, verifies, and approves all MRO cases. Ensures all MRO processing timelines are met. Acts as the liaison among the Wing program manager, Air Force Medical Operations Agency (AFMOA), and making and dispositions to include Wing fitness questionnaires, preparing narrative summaries, AF Form 469s, 422s, and Fitness for Duty dispositions. Provides medical expertise for Wing programs: Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Program, Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), Security Clearances, Arming and Use of Force (AUoF), National Guard Boards and Hearing. Reviews civilian and military medical provider documentation and/or referrals to determine appropriate medical management of ANG members and required referrals including, but not limited to, aeromedical and operational dispositions. Supervisory oversight of full-time medical group aeromedical personnel (Flight Medicine) duties in completing medical case packages listed above before submitting to higher headquarters. Ensures referrals include the appropriate level of severity/urgency of the care needed. Evaluates adherence to medical care plan to include scheduled medical, physical therapy, and mental health appointments.

  • 7. This is a testing designated position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
  • 8. This position requires current, unrestricted Active Reserve Component (ARC)/Unit Training Assembly (UTA) privileges through Centralized Credentials and Quality Assurance System (CCQAS).
  • 9. This position is restricted to those medical privileges granted by the ARC/UTA privilege list, which does not include any form of medical treatment.
  • 10. Must maintain the credentials and Readiness Skills Verifications (RSVs) required by AFSC.
  • 11. Will coordinate with NGB/SG and Medical Group leadership to maintain clinical practice skills requirements.
  • 12. Must attend applicable aerospace courses as required by NGB/SG.
  • 13. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • 14. May be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • 15. May be required to wear special protective clothing such as coats, boots, vests, respirator masks, and/or helmets.
  • 16. Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
  • 17. Must maintain credentials requirements at all times (i.e. current and unrestricted state license, BLS, clinical competencies, etc.).
Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Service "under the authority of Title 5, P.L. 114-328, Sections 932 and 1084 (FY17 NDAA)", and is open to current on-board (Tenure 1, 2 and 3) US Federal employees interested in helping the Department of the Air Force meet our mission requirements as a Physician Assistant.

PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-12 Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or the equivalent which provides knowledge and/or experience performing comprehensive physical assessments of ANG members to include full physical assessments, significant past medical and surgical history, family history, social history, recording/reviewing current medications, and immunization history; experience requesting, ordering, and interpreting laboratory tests related to Individual Medical Readiness (IMR), mobility and retention standards, and flying standards; experience evaluating, and applying the findings of radiological studies; experience requesting consultations to assist on interpretation of abnormal studies and discusses the interpretation of abnormal studies with the member's treating provider; experience with the direct management of occupational/preventive medicine practices including, but not limited to, fitness for duty (FFD) assessments, annual, and Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), annual Web Health Assessments (WEBHA), Line of Duty (LOD) determination, Medical Continuation (MEDCON), Incapacitation (INCAP) pay, Convalescent Leave (CONLV), Disability Evaluation System (DES) Wing fitness questionnaires; experience with management of fly and non-fly waivers and assignment disability codes (ALC).

Must graduated from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, at a college, university or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
