The Opportunity:
CACI is seeking an AI Subject Matter Expert in support of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) to drive the design, evaluation, and adoption of AI solutions across the organization. This role will emphasize applied AI, including identifying practical use cases, advising on model and tool selection, guiding responsible deployment, and communicating AI capabilities and limitations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
This is a hybrid role-not strictly research or engineering. The AI SME serves as a bridge between business needs, technical teams, and leadership.

Pay Range: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. Responsibilities:
- Lead the identification and development of AI use cases, including generative AI, machine learning, and decision-support systems.
- Advise on model selection, prompt design, evaluation methods, and lifecycle management.
- Assess AI solutions for performance, risks, limitations, and ethical considerations.
- Translate complex AI concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders.
- Provide technical oversight and thought leadership for AI initiatives.
- Support the development and enforcement of governance, documentation, and standards for responsible AI use.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- 5+ years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Applied AI/machine learning.
- Data science or advanced analytics.
- AI product development or AI strategy.
- At least 2-3 years of direct experience with AI/ML systems, including generative AI.
- Strong understanding of AI concepts, including model behavior, training vs. inference, prompt engineering, evaluation, and common failure modes.
- Experience designing or advising on real-world AI use cases.
- Ability to clearly explain AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience evaluating the risks and limitations of AI systems.
Desired:
- Experience with cloud AI platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Familiarity with DevOps or MLOps concepts (CI/CD, model deployment, monitoring).
- Exposure to containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Understanding of data pipelines, ETL, and APIs.
- Awareness of cybersecurity considerations for AI systems.
- Experience working in regulated or high-security environments.
