APL is seeking a Fabrication Technician to support the fabrication of high reliability and prototype printed circuit boards for government programs. As a member of our team, you'll build hardware that explores other planets and interstellar space through various NASA missions as well as building critical prototype hardware for our nation's national security interests. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. As a PWB Fabrication Technician...
- Your primary responsibility includes working with engineering to build reliable printed circuit boards.
- You will work in our wet lab to make individual layers of the circuit boards using photolithography techniques (Direct imaging, photoresist developers, chemical etchers, etc.), automated optical inspection equipment, lay-up equipment, and vacuum lamination presses.
- You will be responsible for maintaining various processing equipment, maintaining a clean and organized work area, following proper safety precautions, and working alongside other technicians and our engineering team.
- Opportunities to expand and learn additional processing techniques and equipment such as plating, solder mask application, and HASL, among others, may be available.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Hold a High School Diploma.
- 2+ years of experience in PWB fabrication.
- Excellent written and verbal communications.
- Extremely strong organizational skills.
- Are willing and able to use both chemical and mechanical processes using varying types of equipment.
- Have a strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work on equipment repair.
- Wear safety equipment and can handle containers of chemicals that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
- Have an aptitude for working on computer-controlled equipment.
- Are willing to work occasional overtime and or shifted work schedules during periods of high demand.
- Have experience with Excel and Word.
- Are able to work on several projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
- Are able to work both independently as well as part of a team.
- Are a proactive, self-starter who can troubleshoot issues with the aim to minimize schedule disruptions.
- Have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- 2+ years of experience in a wet lab environment.
- Experience with ERP or MRP software systems.
- Experience in electrical assembly.
- Have good laboratory and chemical hygiene practices.
