Sr. Formulation Technician - Austin, TX
[About the Role]
Join a dynamic biotech team as a Sr. Formulation Technician and play a pivotal role in producing and testing reagents for qPCR and sample preparation applications. You'll operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, supporting critical workflows in veterinary diagnostics, USDA-certified, and custom products. [Responsibilities]
- Formulate buffers and reagents at scales ranging from 100 µL to 2,000 L in a clean manufacturing setting
- Isolate, dilute, and quantify nucleic acids (RNA, DNA) using pipetting and spectrophotometric techniques
- Conduct quality control testing (pH, conductivity, agarose gels, nucleic acid purification, and qPCR quantification)
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and QC processes, documenting results in technical reports
- Revise and develop manufacturing protocols for existing and new products
- Actively participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI) projects and kaizens
- Track and manage manufacturing metrics for process control and productivity
- Prioritize, schedule, and deliver work to meet deadlines
- Accurately manage inventory and maintain compliance with ISO and USDA guidelines
- Train peers on instrumentation, processes, and software
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented workplace demeanor
- Safely handle chemicals and perform additional duties as needed
[Required Skills and Experience]
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Biochemistry or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year of post-undergraduate experience in a relevant setting
- Hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory equipment
- Strong understanding of PCR chemistry, including nucleotides, enzymes, oligos, and buffers
- Proficiency in pipetting, spectrophotometry, and basic quality control tests
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with appropriate PPE

- Experience with experimental design and statistical quality control
- Familiarity with magnetic bead nucleic acid purification
- Previous involvement in process improvement or kaizen initiatives
