A leading aerospace and defense organization is seeking a Senior Software Architect to join its Space Mission Systems (SMS) Rapid Space Capabilities (RSC) portfolio, supporting the Rocky program in Albuquerque, NM. This role will lead end-to-end software development efforts, including architecture, design, development, and testing, while also providing enterprise-level software architecture direction for current and future SMS ground-based solutions.
The selected candidate will work across all phases of the engineering lifecycle—technology investment, concept development, proposals, requirements, design, build, integration, test, and demonstration—supporting next-generation space and ground technologies for commercial, government, and proprietary customers.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Position Responsibilities
• Oversee architecture, design, development, and analysis of complex software systems
• Translate customer and operational requirements into software solutions through collaboration with stakeholders
• Conduct and oversee system-level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities
• Lead software teams through code reviews to ensure compliance with requirements and standards
• Review products and processes for alignment with project plans and industry standards
• Research and implement emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks
• Provide technical leadership across program and organizational software initiatives

Basic Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience with core Computer Science concepts, object-oriented design, and software patterns
• Experience with space/satellite ground mission systems or related domains
• Proven experience leading software development efforts in Architect, Lead Engineer, or Chief Engineer roles
• Active Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript frameworks (React, jQuery UI, OpenLayers, etc.)
• Experience with Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST APIs, and OpenAPI
• Experience with build, dependency management, and automation tools (Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins, etc.)
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Familiarity with TDD, Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD practices
• Experience with software for control systems, embedded FPGA, low-latency deterministic systems, operator interfaces, ground antennas, optical sensors, or gimbal control systems
