Duties
Help

• Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Medical Readiness Program.
• Manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
• Serve as the Military Treatment Facility commander's liaison promptly keeping the installation and local civilian medical/emergency response agencies updated.
• Develop and provide local Medical Disaster Program guidance to wing units including appropriate medical response and survival under a variety of emergency situations.
• Manage or consult on all medical homeland security programs and plan for the Miliary Treatment Facility with the Air Force Base, other installations, and the local community.
• Evaluate reports by analyzing facts and performing research and prepare detailed responses.
• Research and determine or recommend actions or interpretation of issues that impact the organization.
• Plan and manage the Medical Readiness Training Program.
• Exercise supervisory responsibility for subordinate personnel by providing technical and administrative oversight, advice and instruction.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

• This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Basic Requirements for Medical Readiness Specialist:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing medical disaster guidance for a variety of emergency situations; developing criteria for exercising contingency response plans; and monitoring emergency response program operations to ensure action requirements are met. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
