AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking an experienced IT Systems Technical Lead with an active Top Secret/SCI clearance and current polygraph to help lead an established, close-knit team that has delivered mission success for over a decade in support of our government customer's critical national security missions in Chantilly, VA.
The ideal candidate will provide hands-on technical leadership and guide day-to-day IT operations supporting highly secure, mission-critical space and intelligence systems that support real-time mission planning. Responsibilities
As the IT Systems Technical Lead, you will play a key role in:
- Owning day-to-day IT operations within a classified acquisition and mission environment.
- Maintaining the availability, security, and reliability of systems that directly support mission execution.
- Performing hands-on technical work across infrastructure, networks, virtualization, cloud, and application environments.
- Troubleshooting and resolving complex system, performance, and infrastructure issues.
- Supporting secure system integration and sustainment activities throughout the IT lifecycle.
- Managing environment configuration, patching, upgrades, and operational readiness.
- Overseeing continuous integration and deployment of software updates and system changes.
- Ensuring infrastructure modifications comply with security and operational requirements.
- Working closely with Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, Service Desk, and Software Development teams.
- Sustaining compliant, resilient, and continuously improving IT operations.
- Leading and mentoring IT Engineers across new and ongoing technical initiatives.
- Providing technical direction while remaining engaged in hands-on execution.
- Managing personnel development through task assignment, performance feedback, and accountability.
- Supporting professional growth while maintaining high technical standards.
- Effectively communicating with senior-level customers and stakeholders.
- Translating technical risks, issues, and solutions into clear, actionable information.
Qualifications
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with a current Polygraph, required for consideration .
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field
- DoD 8570/8140 IAT II-compliant certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise IT systems, networks, virtualization, and software environments in mission-critical or classified settings.
- 5+ years of experience supporting Information Assurance and Cybersecurity functions.
- Proven hands-on technical leadership, mentoring engineers while remaining actively involved in system operations and troubleshooting.
- Experience leading IT operations in complex, high-security environments.
- Strong communication skills, with experience engaging senior-level customers on technical issues and risks.
- Working knowledge of VMware, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, networking, storage, information security principles, and virtual desktop infrastructure solutions such as Citrix.
- Experience with database administration and advanced VMware or cloud certifications are highly valued.
