Applied Research Solutions is an entry level software engineer to support our internal research programs. The Junior Software Engineer supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads. This role is ideal for an early-career professional who is eager to build technical skills, learn industry best practices, and contribute to team-based software solutions in a collaborative environment

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of software applications and system components
  • Write, test, debug, and document code following established coding standards and best practices
  • Participate in code reviews to learn from feedback and improve code quality
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, product owners, and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver features
  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of existing applications, including troubleshooting and bug fixes
  • Develop and execute unit tests to ensure functionality, performance, and reliability
  • Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team
  • Learn and apply secure coding practices and basic software architecture concepts
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Python, C#, or similar)
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) concepts
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks or CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a team environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, academic project, or entry-level experience in software development
  • Exposure to cloud application development and app integration
  • Familiarity with databases, APIs, or basic DevOps concepts
  • Experience using agile or Scrum development methodologies
  • Azure experience and/or interest.
  • Experience with AI development.
