Job Description:
The Artificial Intelligence Subject Matter Expert (AI SME) provides authoritative technical expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to support the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs. The AI SME ensures instructional content is technically accurate, current with industry and DoW-relevant AI practices, and aligned with mission needs, operational use cases, and workforce competency requirements.

The AI SME ensures instructional content is technically accurate, current with industry and DoW-relevant AI practices, and aligned with mission needs, operational use cases, and workforce competency requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical authority for artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts supporting training and education programs.
- Provide expert input to Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs) during training needs analysis, curriculum design, and content development.
- Validate technical accuracy of AI-related training materials, including lesson plans, courseware, assessments, case studies, and job aids.
- Define AI competencies, learning objectives, and performance standards aligned with DoW mission requirements and workforce roles.
- Translate complex AI/ML concepts (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, neural networks, data pipelines, model evaluation, ethics) into instructionally appropriate and audience-specific content.
- Support development of training across multiple delivery modalities, including classroom, virtual instructor-led training (VILT), distributed learning, and eLearning.
- Provide technical guidance on AI tools, platforms, datasets, and workflows used in demonstrations, labs, or simulations.
- Review and approve instructional products for technical rigor, relevance, and currency with evolving AI standards and practices.
- Advise program leadership on emerging AI trends, risks, and best practices relevant to training objectives.
- Support pilot sessions, instructor preparation, and post-delivery evaluations as required by the contract.
Required Skills:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of professional experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or related fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI/ML concepts, tools, and applied use cases.
- Experience supporting or contributing to technical training, education, or workforce development initiatives.
- Master's degree or PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience supporting DoW, federal, or defense-related programs, especially in training or education contexts.
- Familiarity with DoW AI initiatives, ethical AI principles, or responsible AI frameworks.
- Experience working with instructional design teams or delivering technical training to diverse audiences.
