Linux Administrator
The DTRA program at GES is seeking a Senior Linux Administrator in Fort Belvoir, VA, to support the DTRA I3TS Infrastructure Services team in maintaining and optimizing the Linux production environment. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining Linux servers, as well as conceptualizing, designing, developing, and implementing new Linux capabilities. The candidate is expected to work well as a part of the DTRA Systems Administration team using ITIL best practices, as well as work independently on assigned tasks. Candidate is expected to support the entire service lifecycle from design through development to production, building and deploying Linux-based systems in a virtual environment.
The candidate should be familiar with system automation technologies, basic database administration, and tuning. Candidate must demonstrate a high degree of problem-solving ability in a complex environment and be able to communicate effectively, both to the customer and to team members.
Work location is on-site at Fort Belvoir, VA, with on-site as needed in Reston, VA.
Required Clearance: Active Top Secret with SCI
Key Responsibilities:
The administrator is responsible for provisioning servers and environments to support mission operations.
The administrator manages user access and ensures proper authorization and account governance across all Linux systems.
The administrator maintains servers operating within a virtualized environment and ensures their reliability, security, and performance.
The administrator develops and applies automation using Unix shell scripting and Ansible playbooks to enhance efficiency and consistency across the infrastructure.
The administrator maintains and improves configuration management templates to support standardized system deployment.
The administrator monitors system performance, analyzes alerts, and takes appropriate action to maintain system availability.
The administrator establishes and maintains NTP services to ensure accurate time synchronization across the production environment.
The administrator maintains the agency’s Red Hat Satellite servers and oversees software releases, patching, and lifecycle management activities.
Certifications:
DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification (Security+, CySA+, GSEC, or CCNA Security) required,
Red Hat Certification - Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) (Preferred),
Required Qualifications,
STEM Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, or STEM Master's degree with 6+ years of experience in IT operations working with Linux servers and Virtualization. Additional, specific years of experience can be taken into account in lieu of a degree.
Experience with the following emerging technologies or an equivalent technology: Kubernetes, OpenShift, Containers, GitHub, Ansible Tower,
Ensure compliance with security standards and practices aligned with DoD STIGs.
Experience with web servers and use of certificates.
Open Source: Apache Hadoop, Zookeeper, Puppet
App Servers: JBoss, Tomcat, Jetty, NGINX, HTTP
2-3 years of experience with web server management and implementation; troubleshooting of websites, applications, and security implementations.
Understanding of virtualized infrastructure, server backup and restoration procedures, application of STIGs, and cyber hardening approaches.
Experience with log file analysis.
Experience with Red Hat Satellite tool for deploying, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
Understanding of Red Hat, provisioning, and patching, often using Satellite Capsules for distributed content delivery and local services like DHCP/DNS in large or remote setups. It centralizes RHEL management, improving security and efficiency by handling subscription management, content views, and system auditing from a single console.
Understanding of Red Hat command line tools: System Management, Manage RPM packages, and Package Management.
