Aircraft Instrumentation Technician Supervisor (Flight Test) | Nellis AFB, NV — TS/SCI Required
Company: Strategic Technology Institute, Inc. (STi)
Location: Nellis AFB / Las Vegas, NV (100% on-site / flightline)
Anticipated Start Date: 15 April 2026
Clearance: Active TS/SCI (required)
EMPLOYMENT NOTE
• Full-time positions contingent upon contract award. STi is actively interviewing TS/SCI-cleared candidates for rapid onboarding.
• Period of Performance: 15 April 2026 – 15 April 2031
ABOUT STi
STi is seeking an Instrumentation Technician Supervisor to support the U.S. Air Force’s 59th Test and Evaluation Squadron (59 TES) at Nellis AFB. This role combines hands-on aircraft instrumentation expertise (equivalent to Instrumentation Technician II) with mid-level shift leadership, supporting high-tempo operational flight test across F-35, F-22, F-16, and F-15 variants.
The Supervisor ensures instrumentation shift execution stays aligned to mission schedule, readiness requirements, and flightline safety/OPSEC standards—while still being technically engaged in troubleshooting, maintenance, and functional checkouts when needed.
POSITION OVERVIEW
STi is seeking Instrumentation Technicians (Levels I–III) to support the U.S. Air Force’s 59th Test and Evaluation Squadron (59 TES) at Nellis AFB. The mission supports operational flight test across F-35, F-22, F-16, and F-15 variants in a high-tempo environment (up to 14 instrumented sorties/day).
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You’ll support one-of-a-kind airborne instrumentation systems used for flight test and evaluation. Responsibilities include:
• Serve as shift supervisor for aircraft instrumentation operations: outline task objectives, assign resources, determine timelines, and define technician responsibilities to meet daily mission readiness goals.
• Provide technical leadership to instrumentation personnel (mentoring, task prioritization, troubleshooting approach, workmanship standards).
• Maintain hands-on capability equivalent to an Instrumentation Technician II: support planning, modifying, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining airborne instrumentation systems.
• Coordinate instrumentation requirements, schedules, and work plans with Operations and the Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) to verify mission readiness.
• Oversee execution of pre-, during-, and post-mission tasks: integration, mission configurations, functional checkouts, cockpit integrity checks, and data uploads/downloads.
• Ensure effective fault isolation/rework to restore instrumentation to mission-ready status under tight turn times.
• Ensure compliance with technical data (drawings/schematics/specs) and proper use of electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, telemetry systems, power supplies, etc.).
• Maintain clean, safe, orderly work areas; ensure tool control and flightline safety practices are followed; comply with local base procedures and OPSEC.
• Support additional flightline duties as needed (e.g., airfield driving, QA augmentee, HAZMAT/HAZCOM, COMSEC CRO, initial/block training).
• As required, ensure instrumentation systems are prepared for shipment to repair facilities using Government-provided materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
U.S. Citizenship required. Active TS/SCI required for this program (SAP access may be required).
• High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus 5+ years aircraft instrumentation system experience
• Shift supervisory experience: outlining task objectives, assigning resources, determining project timeframes, and defining team responsibilities
• Strong electronics troubleshooting proficiency and ability to read/interpret technical documentation (schematics, drawings, wiring diagrams, specs)
• Comfort working in a fast-paced flightline/test environment with cross-functional teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Fighter aircraft test/instrumentation experience (F-35/F-22/F-16/F-15)
• Telemetry/data acquisition/TSPI experience; recorder/pod/pallet instrumentation exposure
• Experience supporting rapid-turn flight test tempo and mission readiness coordination
• Prior experience in regulated flightline environments with strong safety/QA discipline
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• On-site at Nellis AFB (flightline / maintenance operations)
• Schedule aligns to test tempo; flexibility may be required
• Travel: Up to 5x/year (CONUS/OCONUS); passport required (reimbursed per JTR)
Keywords: aircraft instrumentation, flight test, telemetry, TSPI, data acquisition, eDART, HSDR/FCR, shift supervisor
EEO: STi is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other protected status.
