Duties

  • Serve as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Brigade's Safety Program, to include serving as the Brigade Commander's subject matter expert, technical advisor/consultant for safety issues.
  • Formulate, determine, or influence the policies and to formulate, develop, organize, execute, and assess the Brigade safety program.
  • Responsible for accident prevention and studies of accident factors to identify predictive trend analysis to devise effective methods to mitigate safety hazards.
  • Recommends specific safety investigative techniques and application of appropriate standards and practices that document final conclusions and recommend corrective actions to the Command.

  • Position requires to obtain/maintain the U.S. Army Safety Professional Certification of the CP/FC12 Program within 12 months of appointment.
  • Position requires the US Army Explosive Level 1 and Level 2 or must complete within 24 months of appointment.
  • This position is covered by the Drug-Free Workplace Program as a testing designated position
  • Must be able to work extended and/or other than normal duty hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime to the extent determined by the supervisor.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a OCONUS US Forces Certificate of License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government driver's license to operate non-tactical vehicle/transportation motor pool (NTV/TMP) vehicles such as a sedan or small passenger van.
  • Must be able to work under austere living conditions, as well as share accommodation under field conditions (containers, tents and/or barracks).
  • Must be able to perform business related travel up to 50% of the time
  • Must be able to receive inoculations IAW DoD requirements for travel to specific countries.
  • Must be able to travel using military transportation or non-commercial means of travel.

  • This position is considered Emergency-Essential (E-E) in support of the Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increased tension and mobilization and could be assigned to any location worldwide.

Basic Requirement: The 0018, Safety and Occupational Health Management series has a specific Basic Requirement that applies to all positions. Applicants MUST meet one of the following statements:1. Possess and Undergraduate AND Graduate degree with a Major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. (NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts for verification).

2. Possess experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples include:
  • Managing safety or occupational health program elements.
  • Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.
  • Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
  • Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards.
  • Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.
  • Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
  • Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.
  • Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
  • Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.

Possess certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination. In Addition of the Basic Requirement Above the Applicant Must Meet the Specialized Experience below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Conducting risk management assessments to include various surveys, evaluations, and inspections to identify varying degrees of hazards; Developing operation risk management plans for safety and occupational health programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and .
