Location - Currently a remote position with occasional travel required to Washington DC - Navy Yard
Clearance - Secret
Salary - Salary to start in the $150,000 range
Overview/Position Summary
The Technical Architect serves as the primary technical advisor to the Technical Director, providing enterprise level architectural leadership across Navy business IT systems. The role ensures that programs-such as Navy ERP, Navy ERP+, and related enterprise business applications-are designed, integrated, secured, and sustained in alignment with DON, DoD, and NAVWAR technical standards. The architect drives modernization initiatives, evaluates emerging technologies, and ensures technical rigor across acquisition, engineering, and sustainment activities.________________________________________
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Architecture & Systems Engineering
• Develop and maintain enterprise architecture artifacts, system views, and integration models.
• Ensure alignment with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF), NAVWAR technical standards, and PEO MLB enterprise architecture.
• Provide technical oversight for system design, interfaces, data flows, and cloud migration strategies.
• Evaluate system impacts of new requirements, modernization efforts, and technology insertions.
2. Support to the Technical Director
• Serve as the Technical Director's delegate for technical reviews, engineering boards, and design decisions.
• Prepare technical briefs, risk assessments, and decision papers for senior leadership.
• Coordinate with NIWC Pacific/Atlantic engineering teams on technical feasibility and implementation planning.
• Advise on technical risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies.
3. Cloud, Data, and Integration Strategy
• Lead technical planning for cloud adoption, data modernization, and enterprise integration.
• Support API strategy, data governance, and interoperability across DON business systems.
• Evaluate commercial and government cloud services for suitability and compliance.
4. Cybersecurity & Compliance
• Ensure systems meet RMF requirements and cybersecurity architecture standards.
• Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to integrate security controls into system designs.
• Support ATO/ATO R activities by providing architectural documentation and technical evidence.
Required Skills, Experience and Qualaifications
• 10+ years in systems engineering, enterprise architecture, or technical leadership roles.
• Experience supporting DoD or Navy IT programs, ideally business systems (ERP, logistics, finance, HR).
• Strong understanding of:
o DoDAF
o RMF
o Cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, milCloud)
o Enterprise integration patterns
o Data architecture and governance
• Experience with Navy ERP or large scale SAP/enterprise business systems is highly desirable.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into leadership ready recommendations.
• Active DoD security clearance (or ability to obtain)
• U.S. Citizenship required

• TOGAF, Zachman, or similar architecture frameworks
• Experience with Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD environments
• Prior NAVWAR, NIWC, or PEO MLB experience
• DAWIA/DAWDF Engineering or IT certifications
• DoD 8570/8140 certifications (Security+, CISSP, etc.)
