Technical Writer

Full Time | Onsite | TS/SCI clearance required

SteelGate LLC is hiring full time Technical Writer to join our team. In this role you will support U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). SteelGate LLC. in partnership with Peraton is providing USSOCOM services for developing, documenting, structuring, implementing, coordinating and monitoring delivery of USSOCOM's IT service management processes, procedures and performance, including continuous improvement of all USSOCOM's IT service areas. This includes support to USSOCOM in coordinating, integrating and synchronizing the services from IT service area providers. This position is responsible for assisting in the creation and maintenance of clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Working under the mentorship of the Governance Lead, this individual will collaborate with various technical/non-technical teams to produce content that supports our products and internal/external processes.

Tasks include:

• Assist in content creation: Draft and edit user guides, educational materials, and internal process documentation as guided by leadership.

• Gather information: Work with subject matter experts (SMEs), developers, and other team members to collect and fact-check information.

• Edit and format content: Ensure existing documentation is accurate, clear, and consistent with standards, guides, and templates.

• Maintain documentation: Help maintain the documentation repository, track changes, and manage updates as products evolve.

• Learn new tools and processes: Attend workshops and training sessions to develop skills in technical writing and familiarize yourself with the industry and our products.

• Prepare meeting materials: Assist with preparation of meeting materials and capturing accurate notes to ensure key information and outputs are documented effectively.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• TS/SCI Clearance Required

• Some experience through internships or a strong portfolio of writing samples is a plus.

• Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

• Proficient with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Products, Visio, SharePoint, or content management systems.

• Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and translate them into easily digestible content.

Experience: 2- 5 years of experience in a journalism, English, or similar role, including internships.

• Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating your writing skills and ability to explain complex information simply is crucial.

• Technical Knowledge: Many employers are more impressed by a candidate's existing knowledge of a specific technical field (e.g., cybersecurity, engineering) than the writing certification itself.

Certifications (Highly desired but NOT required):

• Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC)

• Technical Writer HQ (TW HQ) Certification

• Certified Technical Writer (CTW)

Soft Skills:

• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Demonstrated ability in performance optimization and system engineering processes.

Work Environment:

• Flexibility: Ability to work shifts and weekends as required.

Travel: Less than 10% of travel may be required.

Education:

• A bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field like in business administration, Information Technology, or a related field is acceptable. (Preferred). Higher level of education is also desirable.
