Position Overview
ASRC Federal is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Engineer to serve as the primary technical authority for all network engineering and operations activities supporting the Department of State (DoS) Diplomatic Technology, Enterprise Applications, Public Diplomacy Apps Office. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining a secure, high-performance network infrastructure while providing expert-level troubleshooting and strategic technical leadership across multiple projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications
Designs and plans network systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provides specific, detailed information for technology selection, implementation, and deployment, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network systems. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, firewalls, proxies, load balancing, etc. Prepares appropriate network documentation, including operational instructions. Evaluates and reports on new network technologies, to enhance capabilities of the network. May require knowledge of network topography for cloud integration. May implement applications of machine to machine (M2M) communication to enhance the efficiency and security of the organization's operations. Requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a related or applicable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Network Architecture and Design:
Lead the design and implementation of complex network solutions, including upgrading and testing network designs, advising on hardware requirements and configurations, and developing telecommunications circuit specifications. Deliver automated network provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). - Advanced Troubleshooting and Support:
Serve as the Tier 3/4 escalation point for complex network issues, resolving problems involving diverse protocols, topologies, and hardware platforms. - Security and Compliance:
Implement and maintain robust network security measures (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, load balancers) to ensure compliance with federal standards and best practices. - Documentation and Standards:
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including network diagrams, SOPs, and system requirements, ensuring clarity and consistency across teams. - Technology Evaluation and Planning:
Research and recommend emerging technologies and tools to enhance network performance, security, and automation capabilities. - Collaboration and Communication:
Coordinate with IT managers, architects, project managers, and vendors to define project goals, manage installations, and ensure seamless integration of network solutions. - Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
Monitor network performance metrics, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to maintain optimal network functionality.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or CISSP are highly desirable. - Technical Expertise:
- Proficient with networking hardware and infrastructure from vendors such as Cisco, Palo Alto, and F5.
- Deep understanding of protocols including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP, DNS, DHCP, and HTTP/S.
- Experience with network security technologies and principles.
- Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and scripting/automation tools (e.g., Python) is a plus.
- Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, with a strong background in large-scale, enterprise-level network environments. - Problem-Solving:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently. - Communication and Leadership
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, manage competing priorities, and work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
