Applied Research Solutions has an immediate need for an experienced Fire Protection Engineer who will be primarily responsible for supporting AFLCMC/EN at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH.
The Engineering Directorate (AFLCMC/EN-EZ) has the collective AFMC mission responsibility for preeminent engineering expertise to acquire and support war-winning capabilities. In order to meet current and projected workload requirements in support of AFLCMC/EN-EZ, the Government must augment its organic (military and civil service) capabilities with Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) support.

Responsibilities include:
- Perform planning and design review/approvals for multi-phase new construction, renovations, and improvement projects for real property facility fire protection systems with multiple complex subsystem interfaces, utilizing a professional knowledge of fire protection engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
- Uses creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems.
- Provide expertise to Command and HAF Fire Protection issues and initiatives.
- Prepare, develop or review design calculations, Life Safety analysis, cost estimates, schedules, underlying analysis, technical drawings, and specifications related to fire suppression, fire protection and alarm systems of major size and complexity in very large and highly populated industrial setting including multi-story office/admin buildings, large central steam and cooling plants, laboratories, warehousing, aircraft and missile subassembly and final production facilities, explosive storage facilities, hangars, and similar structures.
- Provide assistance and technical support in the identification, development, and preparation of AF Industrial Plant investment projects.
- Coordinate with customers and other governmental personnel and agencies, as necessary, to define project requirements, ensure compliance with Federal, State, local and Air Force regulations. Draft PWS, prepare SOW, draft programming documents (DD 1391s), and develop cost estimates, briefings, and other components of the programming / acquisition package for Government approval and submission.
- Perform independent technical and cost reviews of facility project design submittal, standard design templates, charrette reports, and facility design standards/tools prepared by architect-engineers.
- Perform comprehensive technical compliance verification of all aspects of the design with all applicable design criteria, including applicable AF and national standards, criteria, and specifications; providing a specific citation as the basis for each finding.
- Perform a comprehensive validation of the designer’s cost estimate, citing specific areas with questionable basis.
- Assess compliance with programming approval documents and applicable program approval thresholds.
- Assist government personnel to perform QA/QC oversight of project field activities.
- Review project field activities to ensure compliance with Air Force, regulatory, and project-specific procedures and the resulting data collected are technically defensible. Assistance shall include site visits, documentation, photographs, daily surveillance log, and reports of immediate health and safety hazards observed.
- Participate in planning/design charrette activity; review/ oversight of Contractor work in progress; and quality assurance/quality control.
- Perform a comprehensive technical review of contract submittal, requests for information, change order requests, or other real-time interaction with a design or construction contractor.
- Assist in the coordination of and attend, all project development meetings, contract review meetings, pre-construction meetings, site visits, and other pertinent meetings to coordinate information with installation activities.
- Develop briefings in support of project and meeting requirements.
- Assist with program development by recommending project priorities and fiscal years to ensure facility and infrastructure investments support current Air Force facility investment strategies.

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
- Must be US Citizen
- Clearance: Secret
- BS in MechanicalEngineering or Fire prevention Engineering
- Facility Project cost estimating: AFIT WENG200 or RS Means or 10+ years experience in facility cost estimating
- Fire Protection: NFPA 101 Life Safety, NFPA 070E Electrical Code Safety in the workplace
- Main NFPA code training; i.e. 101, 13, 20, 72 (codes are updated every 3 yrs), SFPE and/or FP training programs specifically related to major industrial and aerospace facilities
