Linguist
Reston, VA (On/Off-Site)
A large portion of the material for translation, summarization or gisting deals with military, cyber and science and technology terminology. Applicants who do not have prior experience in these areas must be willing to acquire the relevant knowledge for long-term success. Linguists for this requirement must possess excellent English skills and the ability to produce precise English translations.
• Linguists must be comfortable doing long technical translations.
• Linguists must be willing to work anywhere in the WMA.
• Linguists must be comfortable with assignments involving oral interpretation on various topics.
Ability and willingness to go on work trips each lasting once month or longer, several times per year, to include austere and high-risk locations.
Candidates who travel will need native level Russian (5/5/5 SLR scores) and strong Ukrainian (3/3+/3+ SLR scores) as well as strong interpretation skills. TDYs may last up to 90 days both CONUS and OCONUS.
Desired additional skills: Consecutive note taking, conference interpreting, editing, translation quality control (QC).

3 yrs minimum as a professional translator/or interpreter within
the last 8 yrs or a recently completed M.A., in Translation and or
Interpretation
Education Required/Desired Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s desired
Testing Requirement for Component Translation Assessment:
4 in Russian, 3 accepted in Ukrainian
Speaking Listening Reading: 4-5/4-5/4-5 Russian
Speaking Listening Reading: 3/3+/3+ Ukrainian
Desired professional Association Memberships
Professional associations, such as ATA, AIIC, TAALS, NAJIT, IAPTI, NCHIHC, etc
