What You Will Do:

As a Data Scientist Level 3 at Independent Software, you will focus on applying advanced AI/ML techniques to assess, analyze, and drive impact across large-scale datasets supporting mission-critical national security objectives. Your work will include data modeling, computational mathematics, qualitative and quantitative analysis, advanced statistical techniques, and predictive modeling to transform complex data into strategic, actionable insights.

You will design, develop, and deploy AI/ML models while performing large-scale data processing in cloud and distributed computing environments. Leveraging strong Python and SQL skills, you will build automated analytics workflows, normalize and process data, and create impactful visualizations that communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and benefits from prior mission or target domain knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply AI/ML techniques to analyze and assess large, complex datasets for mission impact and decision support.
  • Perform data modeling, computational mathematics, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Develop, evaluate, and deploy AI/ML models, including advanced statistical and predictive models.
  • Process and analyze large-scale datasets using distributed and cloud-based platforms such as Spark.
  • Design and implement automated analytics workflows to support scalable, reproducible analysis.
  • Normalize, transform, and curate data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
  • Create data visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or Python-based visualization libraries to communicate insights effectively.
  • Translate complex analytical results into strategic, mission-relevant insights for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and mission partners to align analytical outputs with operational needs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong AI/ML experience with a focus on large-scale data analysis and model development.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis, modeling, and automation.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark and cloud data platforms.
  • Strong background in statistics, predictive modeling, and computational mathematics.
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Python visualization libraries.
  • Experience developing automated analytics and data processing workflows.
  • Ability to translate complex data and analytical outputs into clear, strategic insights.
  • Target or mission domain knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in team-oriented environments.
Required Education & Experience
One of the following combinations:
  • Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Associate degree with 12+ years of relevant experience
Acceptable fields of study include :
  • Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, or Computer Science
  • Related fields such as Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Physical Sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, biology), or other scientific disciplines with a heavy computational focus
Degrees must include a significant number of upper-level math or computer science courses (typically 300-level or above) in areas such as linear algebra, probability, data structures, algorithms, artificial intelligence, or machine learning.

Alternatively, candidates with broader degrees may qualify if accompanied by a Certificate in Data Science from an accredited institution.

Clearance Requirement:
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
