Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our PLM group within the Engineering Services Department team at NASA John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi and NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, Louisiana. Fire Protection Engineer, which resides in the COSMIC Design Engineering Department, is responsible for maintaining fire protection design control and providing technical support .

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Creating, checking, or otherwise preparing design documentation related to fire protection and other related systems. Design documentation includes:
o Statements of Work
o Construction Specifications
o Drawings
o Engineering Studies
o Life Cycle Cost Analysis
o Other Engineering Documents as Requested - Estimating probable cost of construction for assigned design projects.
- Assisting in the preparation and estimating of design project budgets and schedules and providing deliverables to the customer within said budgets and schedules.
- Peer reviewing design projects prepared by other engineers within the department.
- Maintain a regular work schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- ABET accredited BS Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or have a Mississippi P.E. in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Minimum of five years of experience working as an FPE, must include cost estimates, drawings, and specifications.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, simple graphics, fire dynamic simulation, and a working knowledge of computer aided drafting.
- Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
- Perform research and document for internal and external distribution.
- Experience in designing Fire Detection Systems, Voice Evacuation and Mass Notification.
- Experience working with Monaco wireless transceivers and Siemens Insight Systems preferred.
- Experience in designing fire sprinkler systems, Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems and Deluge Systems.
- Experience in working in Hazard Rated Areas, Class I, Division II, and Group D preferred.
- Experience in Plans Review for compliance with the Life Safety Code.
- Knowledge working with fire pumps.
- Working Knowledge of the International Building Code, Fire Code, Mechanical Code and Plumbing Code and NFPA Codes and Standards.
- Must have knowledge of how to work around asbestos and Lead-based Paint.
- A history of working with an AHJ, Fire Dept. and Safety Staff is preferred.
- Must be a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, grade Professional.
- A P.E. in Fire Protection Engineering is preferred.
- Effectively communicate, both written and verbal, including oral presentations.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
- Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must have, and maintain, a valid Real ID driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
- Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
- Will ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner.
- Will insure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat, and ready for customer needs when complete.
