Job Description

SALARY RANGE $171,000 - $228,000/year.

DUTIES As a successful candidate for the System Engineer III role, you will analyze user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications. Analyzes system requirements and leads design and development activities. Guides users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies. Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology. Incorporates new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations. Develops technical documentation. Develops system Architecture and system design documentation. Guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans. Interacts with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and associated problems, issues, or conflicts. Ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility. Communicates with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.

  • Manage system and derived requirements to ensure delivery of production systems aligned with defined architectures, including DoDAF and SOA
  • Develop, analyze, allocate, and maintain system, functional, and lower-level requirements, ensuring completeness, correctness, traceability, and verifiability
  • Contribute to and review systems engineering documentation, including Systems Engineering Plans, Initial Capability Documents, Requirements Specifications, Interface Control Documents, and JCIDS artifacts
  • Provide technical leadership for system design, architecture development, integration, and end-to-end lifecycle engineering activities
  • Generate and evaluate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions, considering cost, risk, complexity, reuse, scalability, and lifecycle impacts
  • Define verification and validation methods, processes, and criteria, and plan early verification of new and unproven designs
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams and coordinate cross-discipline activities, including design reviews, program reviews, test reviews, and Configuration Control Board actions
  • Establish and manage interfaces, capturing interface definitions in a common control format and repository
  • Develop and implement SOA-based solutions and produce operational, system, services, and technical standards views using applicable DoDAF standards
  • Manage and maintain the technical integrity and configuration of the system baseline throughout development, deployment, and operations
  • Assess, monitor, and mitigate program risks using approved risk management processes, trade studies, and earned value management data
  • Support certification and accreditation activities and Information Assurance requirements, including confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, availability, and security mechanisms
  • Develop concepts of operation, operational scenarios, and system threads describing interactions between users, systems, and environments
  • Conduct system trade analyses and quantitative assessments of non-functional performance areas, including reliability, maintainability, survivability, and vulnerability
  • Review and provide input to work breakdown structures, work packages, integrated master plans, and integration strategies
  • Provide technical direction for requirements elicitation, functional allocation, system requirements reviews, architecture development, integration, and testing across complex hardware and software systems


QUALIFICATIONS Twenty (20) years of experience as an SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. Demonstrated experience in planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts is required. A bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Additional Requirements:
  • Proficient with Linux. Minimum of 2 years of Linux system administration experience
  • Experience with patching and upgrading Linux servers and networking resources
  • VM experience


CERTIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES A CompTIA Security+ is required
