The Opportunity:

The Senior-Level M&S SME role is a unique career opportunity to be part of a team of naval architects, structural engineers, and designers, providing solutions for US ships. Opportunity to support CACI's Washington, DC office, and client site offices at the Washington Navy Yard and beyond, and opportunity for hybrid or remote position.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform structural analysis of shipboard structures, and conduct ship-checks, to design structures that comply with ABS, NAVSEA and other related Rules/Codes/Standards.
  • Design U.S. Navy ship structures, primarily in support of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC), designing and specifying ship structure for new ship designs and retrofits on existing ships, as well as reviewing shipyard structural designs, and designing remedies for in-service structural failures.
  • Primary responsibilities include utilization of Navy and commercial ship structural design standards, and classical and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) analysis methods, to design ship structures and equipment foundations, to document the analyses in reports, write specifications, and to oversee and/or conduct development of structural drawings.
  • This may include up to 3 ship visits per year to gather information such as measurements and photos.
  • Also responsible for mentoring/directing 1-2 less experienced engineers.
  • Prepare and provide quality assurance of structural drawings and structural analysis reports and structural ship specifications.
  • Interface with customers, vendors, shipyards, and internal team members.
  • Train less experienced engineers.


Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in the field of naval structural engineering and/or naval architecture.
  • Minimum 10 years creating FEM and Performing FEA using FEMAP and NASTRAN, including linear, non-linear and global hull strength and fatigue analysis.
  • Experience manipulating and developing CAD files and drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in English.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Security clearance eligibility.


Desired:
  • Previous/current government security clearance.
