The Senior Training Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive professional development programs that strengthen instructional quality, leadership capability, and workforce readiness. The role requires close collaboration with organizational leadership, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to ensure training initiatives are strategically aligned with institutional objectives, regulatory and compliance requirements, and evolving operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Training Specialist will:
- Design, develop, implement, evaluate, and sustain education and training programs in accordance with TR 350-70 series and Army accreditation standards
- Provide training and instructional support for the Common Faculty Development - Instructor Course (CFD-IC) and Common Faculty Development - Developer Course (CFD-DC)
- Support, administer, and manage the SMDS Staff and Faculty Development Program, including coordination with faculty, staff, and leadership
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Faculty and Staff Development Office (FSDO) and associated development programs
- Develop and maintain lesson plans, course content, instructional materials, and evaluation instruments aligned with Army institutional training requirements
- Conduct instructor-led training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations for diverse audiences
- Support and conduct instructor evaluations and certifications for instructor and training developer positions in accordance with established Staff and Faculty Development Program policies
- Perform research on emerging instructional methodologies and training development techniques; analyze findings to update existing materials or develop new content
- Coordinate with SMDS training divisions to ensure all training materials are current, accurate, standardized, and aligned with Army School institutional training doctrine
- Conduct After Action Reviews (AARs) independently or in support of government leads; analyze and report findings to identify trends and recommend improvements to training content and delivery
- Prepare and deliver briefings to senior and high-ranking military and civilian officials
- Travel as required to support training delivery and program execution
Responsibilities
Skills and Experience
The Senior Training Specialist must have:
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- 10+ years of experience in faculty and staff development, instructional design, adult education, or training program management within DoD or Army environments
- Willingness and ability to travel in support of training missions
- Demonstrated understanding of Army staffing processes and institutional training requirements
- Extensive experience supporting or operating within military operational environments
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and best practices in training delivery
- Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
- Proven ability to brief and engage senior leaders and high-ranking officials
- High attention to detail in written products, instructional materials, and verbal communications
- Strong facilitation, instructional, and classroom management skills
- Experience in training technologies and instructional tools, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Education and Certifications
The Senior Training Specialist must meet the following:
Required
- Bachelor's Degree or 12+ years of related military experience as an NCO or Company Grade Officer
- Subject matter expertise and knowledge of military instruction, training development, TRADOC accreditation and instructor and training developer certifications, and staff operations
- Graduate of a military instructor training course (CFD-IC, ITC/SGITC, FIFC, ABIC, AFBIC, etc.)
- Previous instructor-facilitator experience
- Experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Knowledge and understanding of the ADDIE model
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and best practices
