Duties

  • Serve as Deputy Chief of Police for the Law Enforcement Division, III Corps and Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services.
  • Perform a wide range of managerial and supervisory tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations.
  • Meet with Law Enforcement staff concerning problems within their respective branches and sections.
  • Conduct civilian personnel management responsibilities such as Initiating personnel actions, overseeing the interview process and finalizing selections and promotions within the division.
  • Plan for current and long-range operations based on workloads, trends, and projected requirements.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Chief of Police and Deputy Director on law enforcement issues and related programs.
  • Advise top-level installation managers on law enforcement issues impacting them and develops acceptable solutions to problems.
  • Direct special studies involving problems identified by supported officials, recommends solutions, defends actions taken, and coordinates with operating officials and other agencies concerned.
  • Analyze missions and functions, workload organization, staffing, training, equipment, funding and relationships with other Directorates.
Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or complete within one year of hire date, unless incumbent has been grandfathered or has an approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Must comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program which includes a high standard of conduct, assessed for emotional stability, judgment, adjusting to changes, work effectively under pressure and emergencies.
  • Must complete of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outline in "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program". Failure to meet the standards will result in separation.
  • Must be able to pass training, certification and qualification requirements related Law Enforcement work functions to include: weapons qualifications, first aid CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS)training requirements.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • In accordance the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act if convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position; and is subject to removal from the position if found convicted after being employed
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. Convictions that occurred before January 20, 2001 are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement.
  • Mission Essential designated position during Inclement Weather Conditions or emergency conditions. In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret Clearance (T3).
  • You may be expected to travel a 10% of the time for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals
  • This position hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position may require a one year supervisory probationary period.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: directing elements of law enforcement operations; evaluating law enforcement issues to develop acceptable solutions to problems; and determining law enforcement resources based on operational need. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
