JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seeks a highly motivated and proficient Software Safety Engineer to support Federal Systems Programs at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. The candidate will perform risk and hazard analyses on integrated systems supporting advanced DoD weapons systems. Responsibilities include oversight of engineering developments, assurance of engineering activities, and supporting design engineers to build evidence-based safety cases while ensuring compliance with hardware and software engineering processes for safety-critical systems.

Job Responsibilities

• Apply MIL-STD-882E safety engineering principles and JSSSEH software safety methodologies.
• Review system and functional specifications; develop software safety targets and requirements.
• Collaborate with design teams/customers to perform MIL-STD-882E hazard analyses (FHA, HTL, SwSAR).
• Conduct FHA, SAR, FMEA, FTA, and other safety studies with engineering groups.
• Develop application/product safety cases.
• Document and communicate technical results to stakeholders.
• Coordinate production of design safety documentation, including safety cases.
• Develop and maintain Hazard Tracking Log.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Skilled in social media content creation (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).

Education & Experience:

• BS in Engineering or related field (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Aerospace preferred) + 9 years' experience
• OR Master's + 7 years
• OR PhD + 4 years

Clearance: Interim DoD Secret required prior to start; ability to obtain/maintain full DoD Secret. US Citizenship required.
Required KSAs

• Proven software safety engineering experience.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AMCOM Reg. 385-17, JSSSA-IG, and related publications.
• Experience as a Software Safety Engineer or Senior Engineer with software safety/assurance responsibilities across complex, large-scale systems.
• Familiarity/experience with DOORS, C/C++ in Agile environments.
• Experience with design, test, and analysis tools/systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to research, present ideas effectively, and create user-friendly visuals.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, analytical, problem-solving, and able to work under pressure.
