Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes identifying and collecting facts and evidence from a wide variety of crime scenes or sources in support of criminal cases, traffic accidents, and worker's compensation cases, apprehends violators as directed, follows leads of inquiry, research records, and prepares reports of findings that result in criminal administrative actions, judgments or decisions.
Education
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement or Forensic Science.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Additional information
- Assess and articulate information both orally and in written format.
- Conducts various levels of investigative case work in support of investigations involving depot security.
- Conducts field interviews for sensitive complex investigations.
- Tracks and coordinates investigative correspondence.
- Identifies and collects facts and evidence from a wide variety of crime scenes or sources in support of criminal cases, traffic accidents, and worker's compensation cases.
Conditions of employment
- Incumbent required to have completed the Military Police Investigator's course at USAMPS prior to performing investigative duties in accordance with AR 190-30.
- Incumbent is required to carry a firearm, and remain proficient in the use of assigned weapons, per AR 190-14.
- Incumbent is required to maintain a valid state and Government Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass a physical examination.
- Incumbent must qualify on assigned weapon on a semi-annual basis.
- Incumbent may be required to work overtime.
- Incumbent may be required to work irregular tours of duty, weekends, and Federal holidays.
- Incumbent is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 . You will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The Army Substance Abuse Program. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing and required to sign a DA Form 5019
- This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), and is excluded from coverage as LOE for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Basic Annuity IAW CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
