Job Summary : Waypoint's client is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Technical Writer to
create and maintain clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation for our software
products and systems, which operate across both Linux and Windows platforms. This
role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers,
developers, and product managers, to translate complex technical information into
user-friendly content for diverse audiences.
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating and maintaining comprehensive
technical documentation to support our contracts and projects. This role requires a
highly skilled writer with a strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to
communicate complex information clearly and concisely. The Technical Writer will
collaborate with technical experts to produce high-quality deliverables. These
deliverables must meet contractual obligations and internal standards. Must be a
self-starter with communication skills and ability to work directly with
technical/engineering staff on technical documents without management intervention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Maintain Documentation: Plan, research, write, and edit a range of
    technical documents, including user manuals, installation guides, system
    specifications, API documentation, and FAQs, for both Linux and Windows
    environments.
  • Collaborate with SMEs: Interface with subject matter experts (SMEs), developers,
    and QA teams to gather technical information, clarify complex details, and ensure
    the accuracy of all documentation.
  • Simplify Complex Information: Translate technical jargon and complex system
    functionality into simple, polished, and engaging content tailored to both
    technical and non-technical end-users.
  • Manage Documentation Lifecycle: Oversee the updates and revisions to existing
    documentation to reflect product changes and ensure consistency in style and
    terminology across all platforms and media.
  • Adhere to Standards: Follow established style guides and documentation
    templates and contribute to the improvement of documentation processes and
    standards.
  • Incorporate Visual Aids: Work with designers and developers to incorporate
    diagrams, flowcharts, screenshots, and other visuals to enhance user
    understanding
Other Responsibilities:
Developing and maintaining a wide range of technical documentation, including Build Guides, Test Reports, Architectural documentation, Concept of Operations (CONOPs), and Security Documentation. The role also involves collaborating with engineers, developers, security personnel, and other specialists to gather information and ensure the accuracy and completeness of technical content. Further responsibilities include ensuring all documentation adheres to contractual requirements, standards, and templates; managing the documentation lifecycle, including planning, writing, editing, reviewing, and updating documents; maintaining and organizing documentation repositories to ensure easy access and version control; participating in document reviews and incorporating feedback from stakeholders; and
contributing to the development of documentation processes and standards.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a
    related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Technical Writer, with a focus on
    producing contract deliverables.
  • Current experience with Agile program management tools including Atlassian
    suite (Jira, Confluence)
  • Active Secret security clearance.
  • Proven ability to write high-quality technical documentation,
    including: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Columbia, Maryland.
  • Experience: Proven experience (e.g., 10+ years) as a Technical Writer,
    preferably in a software development or IT environment.
  • Operating Systems Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of and
    experience with both Linux (e.g., navigating directories, command-line
    usage, package management, basic troubleshooting) and Windows
    operating systems.
  • Writing Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with
    meticulous attention to detail and grammar.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn and understand complex
    technical subject matter and new technologies.
  • Tools Experience:
    • Proficiency in documentation tools such as Visio, SharePoint, JIRA,
      Confluence.
    • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), version control
      systems (e.g., Git/GitHub), and markup languages like Markdown, XML, or
      HTML.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Experience:
  • Work directly with Engineers to document integration processes as they
    are developed.
