Configuration Engineer

The Configuration Engineer evaluates equipment, system, and software design changes to understand their impact on product functionality, and prepares all documentation required to support those changes. They manage change processes to maintain consistency and integrity across the full equipment and software portfolio.

This role develops and maintains software configuration management tools that support identification, control, reporting, and delivery for both in-house software and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. The engineer performs configuration management and release engineering activities to ensure new software updates are properly documented, align with standard hardware configurations, and remain fully supportable.

They create and maintain configuration and management documentation, and authorize the release of drawings and software updates submitted by management and cross-functional teams. The position also involves designing, automating, and maintaining productivity tools—using programming, databases, or scripting—to enhance software modeling and development processes.

Additionally, the engineer defines and implements build procedures used throughout software development and deployment.
