Job Summary:

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, servers, and network infrastructure. The role involves installing hardware and software, managing network services, ensuring system performance and security, and providing technical support to internal users. The Systems Administrator will work closely with the IT team to ensure all organizational IT services are running efficiently and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

System Maintenance and Administration:
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Perform regular system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues, and provide solutions in a timely manner.

Security and Backup:
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Manage user access controls, ensuring proper security protocols are followed.
  • Perform regular backups and ensure disaster recovery plans are in place and tested.

Network and Server Management:
  • Maintain and administer computer networks, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless systems.
  • Set up and configure new servers, and ensure their performance meets business needs.
  • Monitor network performance and optimize it for availability and efficiency.
User Support and Training:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users.
  • Maintain documentation of systems, processes, and configurations.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new staff on relevant IT systems.

System Performance and Optimization:
  • Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with computer systems.
  • Optimize system performance, ensuring all systems run efficiently and securely.
  • Ensure the availability of IT services and respond promptly to incidents and service requests.

Software and Patch Management:
  • Perform routine updates of software, operating systems, and security patches.
  • Ensure software licensing compliance and manage vendor relationships for IT products and services.

Qualifications:
  • Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI CI Poly
  • Education/Experience: 2 years with BS/BA; without a degree, 6 years' experience may be considered.
  • Required Skills:
    • Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (ex: Security+ CE), or greater.
    • Able to support an after-hours on-call schedule. On-call duties are required due to mission criticality and are shared among the team on a rotating basis.
    • Able to occasionally work abnormal hours to support spacecraft launch events.
    • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL8), specifically including configuring Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) to allow custom applications, and File Access Policy (FApolicy) setup.
    • Experience or familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux integration with Windows authentication services (Active Directory).
    • Experience or familiarity with hardening system environments by optimizing storage partitions to meet STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) and custom application requirements.
  • Preferred Skills/Certifications:
    • Experience with the challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis, and system architecture design.
    • Experience using automation tools to maintain a system configuration baseline, and to execute tasks such as software installs and vulnerability patches.
    • Experience with establishing and configuring Gitlab CI/CD (Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery) pipeline.
    • Experience with Splunk to include creating dashboards to monitor the state of critical system component.
    • Experience with cross domain solutions spanning across different levels of security classification.
    • Experience or familiarity using automation tools such as Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, Chef, and Puppet.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform tasks such as connecting cables, installing hardware, and setting up workstations.
  • Standing, sitting, and bending for extended periods.
Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required depending on operational needs.
