Job Description
· Position: Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering - Network Engineer (NE)
· Responsibilities:
· Technical planning, system integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting for systems/subsystems.
· Support requirements, design, development, testing, and integration of hardware/software for airborne and ground communication platforms.
· Expectation of 10-15% shift, on-call, or weekend work.
Key Duties:
· Assist in designing and developing physical/logical network architectures (voice, video, data) across multiple security domains.
· Design robust and scalable network solutions meeting business requirements.
· Implement network changes/upgrades per project plans.
· Maintain networks (LAN, MAN & WAN) for airborne/ground systems via terrestrial and BLOS circuits.
· Coordinate with ISPs for line installations and hardware.
· Configure edge devices and establish BGP peering as needed.
· Collaborate with ISPs for effective issue diagnosis and resolution.
· Translate customer voice into system-level requirements.
· Troubleshoot complex network issues (e.g., BGP flapping, network instability).
· Monitor network performance ensuring reliability and availability.
· Perform requirement traceability to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
· Knowledgeable in:
· IP Multicast
· Class of Service (CoS)
· Layer 3 and Layer 2 VPNs
· Assist in systems engineering trade studies and evaluations for accuracy and completeness.
· Write subsystem specifications based on system requirements.
· Evaluate alternative solutions and preliminary system designs.
· Conduct design reviews to ensure alignment with system requirements.
· Develop and execute network test procedures.
· Prepare presentations for non-technical professionals.
· Collaborate across engineering disciplines to create multi-security domain networks in a MIL-STD environment.
· Prepare and maintain detailed network documentation.
· Generate reports on network performance, issues, and project progress.
