Position Location: Hampton, VA - Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE)

This position and the associated duties and responsibilities are contingent upon securing the necessary funding and formal contract award.

Makai is an NHO 8(a) that specializes in C5ISR services, DoD systems integration, business analytics, and the modernization of wired and wireless government networks. Makai provides professional services and technical expertise in mobile/edge computing (deployable 5G), systems engineering, cybersecurity, data migration and storage, software development (DevSecOps), and process improvement.

Makai is seeking a Domain Specialist to support Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) Air Combat Command (ACC). The Domain Specialist will provide demonstrated and specialized expertise on specific domains, systems, business, technical, cultural, protocol and management subjects. This role may also perform language interpretation and translation as needed. The ideal candidate will combine subject-matter mastery, analytical rigor, and strong communication skills in a joint/coalition air, space and multi-domain environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on one or more designated domains (e.g., systems, business processes, technical architecture, cultural/protocol, management frameworks) aligned with PACAF mission priorities
  • Provide analysis, briefings and recommendations to senior leaders and planning staff for ACC/PACAF engagements, exercises, operations and sustainment efforts
  • Conduct language interpretation and translation when required to support partner-nation dialogues, multinational training or coalition coordination
  • Develop and maintain domain assessments, capability maps, gaps and opportunities analyses, and contribute to concept development, planning, and execution of exercises or operations
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (service components, partner nations, interagency organizations) to integrate domain expertise into planning, coordination, and execution of joint, combined or coalition activities
  • Support the preparation of deliverables such as concept of operations, white papers, execution orders, after action reports, and briefings tailored to domain area
  • Identify emerging technologies, processes or methodologies within the domain area, and recommend enhancements or adoption strategies to increase operational effectiveness, readiness, interoperability and resilience
  • Maintain awareness of regional relationships, customs and courtesies, partner-nation sensitivities, and ensure domain-specific guidance is culturally and operationally appropriate
  • Support compliance with applicable performance standards, deliverables, reporting requirements and security protocols in the execution of domain-specific tasks


Degree/Education and Training Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution


Experience

Required:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more domains relevant to Department of War / United States Air Force operations, training, or planning
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to respond to communications within established timelines and present to senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate within a team environment and interface with customers/stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new planning, collaboration or domain-specific tools


Preferred:
  • Recent military experience (past 10 years)
  • Experience with AOC/MAJCOM/NAF staff or within joint/coalition environments
  • Prior work in the Indo-Pacific theater or familiarity with the region, its partner nations, cultural norms, and operational environment
  • Experience in one or more of the following domains: systems engineering, business process transformation, technical architecture, multi-domain operations, interoperability, coalition training/exercises, language translation/interpretation
  • Familiarity with Department of War / United States Air Force planning systems, joint operation planning, exercises (FTX, CPX, tabletop), command and control architectures and multi-domain integration
  • Demonstrated capability identifying and recommending emerging technologies/methodologies relevant to the domain area


WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work will be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Work assignments vary based on client requirements.
  • Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
  • General office equipment, which includes telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
  • You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work
  • No regular travel in support of this contract, however ad-hoc travel may be required
  • Candidates must exhibit professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with a variety of government, military and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Candidates must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Grooming and dress is usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.

Estimated Compensation

  • $82,000 - $92,000

Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to employee's experience, skills, education, industry, location, company size, and overall market demand.
