Description

Are you interested in the research, development, design, testing, and analysis of Position, Velocity, Attitude, and Timing (PVAT) systems including Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers in both clear and interfering radio frequency (RF) environments?

Do you want to be a part of an interdisciplinary team that helps ensure the success of kinetic weapon systems through integrating, testing, analyzing, and improving RF hardware through laboratory and field-testing activities?

If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking an engineer to evaluate and assess performance of weapon systems by developing, testing, and implementing complex environments via hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL or HIL) testbeds. You will join a team that integrates, tests, and evaluates HIL simulations that involve GNSS receivers, integrated navigation systems, and external inputs like IMU, air data sensors, and radar altimeters. You will collaborate with a team to develop requirements, evaluate performance, and perform independent verification and validation navigation hardware under challenging signal conditions in real-world environments.

As a PVAT Test and Integration Engineer you will...
  • Integrate, test and evaluate GNSS receiver and navigation hardware systems in APL HiL facilities, at field test sites, and external ground test facilities.
  • Support Systems Engineering technical tasks such as trade studies, analysis of alternatives, proposals and conceptual development for current and future US military PVAT systems.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies and methodologies to validate requirements and assess performance.
  • Explore performance improvements through experimentation and prototyping.
  • Analyze and assess contractor designs to assist program offices throughout the DoD acquisition cycle and collaborate with contractor community to help them field operational weapon systems.

Qualifications

You meet our qualifications for the job if you...
  • Have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or another related technical field
  • Have 4 or more years of RF Engineering experience.
  • Are familiar with one or more of: navigation principles, inertial navigation, aided navigation, Kalman filters, GNSS receivers, or HIL testing.
  • Have knowledge of RF systems, signal processing, software (C++, Python), or data analysis/visualization (MATLAB).
  • Have experience using RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, waveform generators, oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, or RF recorders
  • Have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated success while working within a team environment.
  • Have the ability to travel up to 20% of the time, as needed.
  • Hold an Interim Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
