ASRC Federal is seeking a highly skilled Facilities Support Engineer to provide comprehensive operational, maintenance, and safety support for NASA Ames' Human Factors laboratories and facilities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the successful execution of NASA missions by supporting building operations, A/V engineering, collaborative technical systems, and general facility upkeep. The position also serves as an alternate Facility Site Manager, supporting the oversight and planning essential to NASA Ames building operations.

This role requires strong technical ability across multiple trades, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive, service-oriented mindset. The ideal candidate thrives working independently, enjoys learning new skills, and is eager to support NASA teams by ensuring facility infrastructure is safe, reliable, and mission-ready. The Facilities Support Engineer is a core contributor to NASA Ames operations. Your work ensures that laboratories, collaborative spaces, and mission-critical facilities remain operational, safe, and prepared for cutting-edge research. This role directly supports the reliability, accuracy, and success of teams advancing NASA's Human Factors initiatives and broader mission goals

Responsibilities:

  • Perform, assist with, and coordinate special facility projects and tasks supporting NASA Ames missions, providing operational assurance and planning for office and lab modifications, relocations, and other project management activities.
  • Support engineering needs including custom fabrication for experiments, technical project implementation, and A/V engineering, distribution, and systems maintenance, overseeing facility projects from concept to completion while meeting timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and general construction and repair fixtures, furniture, and equipment to maintain building functionality and safety.
  • Evaluate incoming work requests, identify solutions, coordinate internal and contracted work, and maintain facility code compliance, documentation, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Participate in facility safety programs, perform monthly safety and fire extinguisher inspections, identify and report hazards, ensure corrective actions, and respond to building emergencies, including openings and closures.
  • Interact with permitting authorities to provide required documentation and work closely with NASA Ames facilities teams, contractors, and technical groups.
  • Assist with budget tracking by reporting purchases and facility-related material costs, and provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced facility staff to support a positive team environment.
  • Communicate effectively with NASA teams, delivering clear technical and customer support, while safely operating NASA vehicles and equipment-including box trucks, forklifts, and manlifts-and supporting shipping/receiving and material movement needs.
  • Maintain and organize the division's maintenance shop and support daily facility upkeep.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work primarily on-site at NASA Ames in a fast-paced environment with workflow interruptions and shifting priorities, with occasional remote work.
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions, noise, temperature variations, pest-control environments, and other safety-related elements with frequent physical activity including bending, standing, kneeling, climbing ladders, walking long distances, and reaching various facility areas with regular lifting of moderate to heavy materials and use of hand, wrist, and finger dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, lifts, shop equipment, and other facility-related machinery.


Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a NASA Government Public Trust.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with 5+ years of experience in trades, construction, or building maintenance.


  • Proficiency with power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct work independently.


  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical documentation such as blueprints and building plans, and apply strong problem-solving skills to develop multiple solution options.


  • Ability to complete and maintain all NASA-required IT and job-related


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong customer service abilities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade certifications, degrees, or specialized training in facilities, construction, or project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of A/V systems and IT network infrastructure.
  • Advanced understanding of HVAC systems and facility operations.
  • IFMA Certificate in Facilities Operation & Maintenance (in progress or completed).
  • Experience with shipping and receiving management.
