The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. As a Security Operations Center Call-Taker and Dispatcher...
- Your primary responsibility will be to answer emergency and non-emergency calls, process them using a computer aided dispatch system and dispatch the calls for service.
- You will evaluate situations and determine the appropriate safety response.
- You will be responsible for making notifications to, and coordinating service responses by, the APL Security Force, the APL Fire Department, and APL’s facilities management professionals.
- You will monitor and act on information from alarms systems, video monitoring systems, and access control systems.
- You will be an essential part of, and coordinate, the daily activities of the APL Security Force.
- You will continue to use the same skills that you have developed working in a public safety answering point environment.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Have successfully been employed as a Police and/or Fire cross-trained call-taker and dispatcher at a 911 Center (public safety answering point) for 10 or more years.
- Have thorough knowledge of the use of computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Have the ability to quickly process emergency and non-emergency calls for service, enter CAD data, dispatch personnel and status the calls.
- Are Emergency Medical Dispatch certified.
- Are skilled in using personal computers as well as word processing.
- Can effectively communicate, orally and in writing, in the English language with representatives throughout the APL organization as well as external business contacts.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
