Duties

  • You will be directly responsible for three or more DACP Officers, Military Policemen (MP) and on some installations, DA Security Guards (DASG), while on shift as outlined in the Patrol Distribution Plan (PDP).
  • You will oversee DACP and/or MPs collecting and preserving evidence, conducting long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyzing facts to identify suspects and develops case information for use in pressing charges
  • You will instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques, provide on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures, and conduct training regarding various law enforcement topics.
  • You will conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment, appear in court to testify as required, and violators as required by applicable laws or regulations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • A one year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.

  • Incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 1 year, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • You must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property and includes responding to and investigating emergency calls and complaints; using investigative procedures, techniques, and methods to investigate and resolve crimes; and mentoring other personnel on law enforcement regulations and requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
