Serves as carpenter to perform construction, repairs, and alterations of buildings and facilities Incumbent carpentry duties include repairs and maintenance of equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings and trim made of wood. Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered and identify and reports safety, environmental and other work requirements for resolution. Capable of wearing a respirator for asbestos removal.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and alters buildings and structures within stipulations of building codes. Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches, planning work accordingly. Installs rafters, studs, sills, plates, braces, joists, floors, sub-floors, paneling, and siding. Selects lumber, materials, and supplies necessary for completion of various job assignments. Fabricates and installs frames or casings for windows, doors, transoms, and ventilators. Fabricates and installs shelves, counters, plywood ductwork, bulletin boards, cabinets, bookcases, and related items. Fabricates concrete forms, scaffolds, storage pallets, storage bins, tables, workbenches, and other similar items. Performs general housekeeping and necessary clean-up of work sites. Adheres to company safety policies, procedures, and programs. Works Overtime as required.
  • Experience as a journeyman carpenter. Ability to use hand tools common to trade. Demonstrated reliability and initiative in past work experience. Roof repair experience required. Installing glass, floor tile and covering, door hardware.
  • Performs asbestos abatement functions in accordance with company and state and federal government requirements.

    • Having the ability to properly use various hand and power tools.
    • Having the ability to demonstrate the proper use of digital multi-meters, clamp on ammeters.
    • Ability to perform work in a safe and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
    • Effectively coordinate a number of projects simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
    • Contributing to the successful completion of project initiatives.
    • Accountable for assigned tools, materials and equipment.
    • Cleanliness and safety of shop and work areas.
    • Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
    • Responsible for completing daily work order log documenting inspections, maintenance and repair information, to include work performed, materials used and hours worked on each assigned work order.

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years minimum experience in general carpentry.
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary licenses/IDs/certifications.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with facility/infrastructure codes and standards, as applicable.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional & courteous manner in diverse situations.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrated working ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must have roofing experience.
  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must be able to receive a security clearance for access to material up to and including SECRET and/or pass a National Agency Check.
