Duties

  • You will ensure physical security measures are in effect in remote areas of the installation for the protection of Government property, endangered or threatened species, and cultural / archeological protected / sensitive sites.
  • You will conduct community relations activities, briefings, tours and other functions, which enhance appreciation of the wildlife and promotes a positive attitude and public awareness of fish and game laws and regulations.
  • You will maintain a working relationship and liaison with the local State and the U.S. Department of the Interior (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) in studies of endangered wildlife species and threatened populations.
  • You will conduct investigations, felony and misdemeanor, into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws which involve a wide range of law enforcement activities.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • A one year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Incumbent must successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 1 year, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • You must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • You must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
  • You must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
  • You must be qualified and certified in the use of all assigned weapons and police related equipment which may include chemical aerosol irritants and LESD.
  • You must obtain and maintain State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
  • You must successfully graduate from the USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course within one year of assignment.
  • Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42; DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property which includes detecting and denying unauthorized access to restricted/closed range areas, natural resources, cultural and/or archeological sites; interviewing witnesses and collecting or preserving evidence in support of legal charges related to protection of endangered or threatened species, hunting, and/or unauthorized access to sensitive sites; and conducting short and long-term investigations into felony and misdemeanor violations of Federal wildlife and environmental laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies. The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers. The provision, which is in Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect. Felony convictions that occurred before the new law takes effect are not included in this requirement; only new convictions will trigger the requirement. The law went into effect on January 20, 2001.
