Job Title: Construction Engineer 1 (LANL JP 3071)
Duration: Initial 2-year assignment with potential for extension and conversion to permanent employment
Location: Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), TA-55 area - 100% On-Site
Short Summary about Job:
Performs entry-level professional construction engineering work at Los Alamos National Laboratory supporting critical installation projects. Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while carrying out assigned tasks under supervision. This role supports the PIE-INST2 team's transition from design phase to installation phase, providing essential field engineering support to maintain project momentum and resolve construction-related issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with minimum 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Understanding of standard construction engineering techniques and procedures
Ability to work as part of a team across multiple groups and with various leaders
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to obtain and maintain Q-level security clearance
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and MS Teams
Willingness to learn LANL-specific tools and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
DoE (Department of Energy) or DoD (Department of Defense) experience
Navy nuclear, pharmaceutical, oil/gas, or commercial building construction experience
Electrical systems background
Glovebox systems familiarity
Manufacturing facility experience
NQA1 (Nuclear Quality Assurance) familiarity
Facility-based mechanical systems experience
Field engineer certifications (pressure testing or related)
Active Q-level security clearance
Regulatory environment experience
Team-oriented mindset with 'humble, hungry, and smart' approach
Flexibility regarding work schedules including potential shift work availability
Miscellaneous/Additional Information:
Q-level security clearance required (preferred to have clearance, but can start without as long as able to obtain)
Work schedule: 4/10s schedule (flexible to 9/80A or 5-8s); shift work options available for field engineers with 6-week rotations
On-call responsibilities and overtime required
May require occasional local travel; LANL vehicles available but personal vehicle or public transportation may be needed
Per diem and relocation assistance may be available
Must be willing to work in a secure area with potential exposure to (non-hazardous) nuclear materials
Physical requirements: Ability to be on feet for extended periods
Must be proficient in MS365/Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and MS Teams
Remote/hybrid work not available except in emergency situations
